August 16th Weekly Report & Fishing Forecast

By August 16, 2021August 23rd, 2021No Comments

Wow, its been another fun week of fishing here on Florida’s Space Coast. Captain Justin and I have been chasing fish in the lagoons, near coastal waters, and offshore waters on our recent charters.

The barracuda action was pretty good on the offshore reefs which has been a change for us from the past month. We have seen a lot of these predators but haven’t been getting them to bite very well. That all changed this week. These fish are really impressive with their blistering runs and cool jumps. If you use light tackle- 15 to 20 pound class gear- they are very similar to catching a sailfish on trolling gear-and their teeth are impressive! Small cobia, good sized king mackerel, and a few tarpon, snook, and jacks rounded out our trips in the ocean this week.

Tarpon schools are showing up in the lagoons in larger numbers right now. We have been getting a few smaller fish over the summer (like the one pictured above), but these bigger tarpon should be very targetable now that they are showing up in good numbers. some of these will weigh over 100 pounds. Stay tuned for more on this in the next few reports.

Snook season opens on September 1st here in central Florida, we have a few openings left so give us a call (321-636-3728 or online www.finelinefishingcharters.com) if you want to book a trip for these hard fighting and tasty critters.
