Rockledge, Florida is located right on the west shore of the world famous Indian River. What is the Indian River famous for? Fishing! Fishing for monster redfish and gator trout to be exact.
The Indian River is part of a semi-closed saltwater estuary that is home to Florida’s largest resident redfish. Redfish from 10-lbs to 50-lbs roam the waters here in Rockledge along the peaceful shores of the Indian River. During the Fall of the year, these large “bull” redfish school up by the hundreds into spawning groups– literally turning the water a coppery red.
The world record speckled sea trout was caught near here and there are plenty of gator trout to go around. Trout from 3lbs to 10lbs are fairly common and just like redfish, they can be found on the shallow flats of the Indian River.
If you are looking for a flats and inshore saltwater fishing experience that isn’t far from Orlando and Disney, then Rockledge, Florida is a great place to go wet a line.
