Good numbers of tarpon are showing up in the Indian and Banana River lagoons since my last report. These fish are here a few weeks early but that is great news for my customers that like to catch (or at least try for) a silver king. Live mullet or pogies rigged on a 4/0 to 5/0 sized VMC circle hook and 40 to 50-pound test leader will usually get these fish to strike. Captain Justin and I have also been getting the tarpon to strike Saltwater Assassin 4-inch sea shad tails rigged on a 1/8 to 1/4-ounce Assassin Spring lock jig head. Good colors are Mama’s 14k, Green hornet, and silver mullet.
OFFSHORE- We had a few days of cobia action on the offshore structures recently. I took Will and his Brother Brain out for some wreck fishing on Wednesday this week and we hooked quite a few cobia (along with numerous red snapper that we had to return to the water.). I won’t be back out there until next week to see if the cobia are still there. I’m hoping that they stick around long enough to get some of you other anglers out there so that you can invite a fish or two home for dinner with you. We are actively booking for the May, June, and July time frame. If you’re wanting to get out and catch your next memory, please give Captain Justin or myself a call (or go to our reservations page) and book your trip with us today.
