Orlando and Cocoa Beach area saltwater fishing action remains steady this October

By October 18, 2018No Comments

The waters east of the Orlando area near cocoa beach continue to to produce fairly consistent fishing action this month.  Black Drum, Speckled Trout, and Bluefish are the top three species we have been catching lately.  The black drum are hitting jigs tipped with shrimp or some form of scented product like bang! or Pro-Cure.  The trout have responded well to Rapala Skitterwalk plugs in the morning and then Saltwater Assassin 4-inch sea shad rigged weedless once the topwater bite slows.  t has been exceptionally hot this October around the Cocoa Beach area.  This has left the fishing to be only “fair” in my opinion so far this month.  The fishing action should start to get much better in the next few weeks as the waters east of Orlando start to cool back down into the lower 80 degree range.   Redfish and trout action should start to pick up once this occurs.  For anglers fishing in the Indian and Banana River Lagoons that cant really use the walk the dog  style topwater plugs like the Rapala Skitterwalk, Captain Justin Ross and I have been tying on the Storm Chug Bug lures.  When fished around mullet schools this has also been producing trout and ladyfish during the early mornings.  Tarpon, Bluefish, jack. snook, sailcats, and a variety of shark are also possible along the near shore waters along Cocoa Beach.   We are also using live mullet or menhaden when targeting these species this past week.  If you are coming to the Orlando or Cocoa Beach areas to go fishing look us up and we’ll try to get you out there to catch your next memory!
