Orlando and Cocoa Beach area fishing report by Captain Jim Ross

East Orlando, Cocoa Beach, Port Canaveral -Offshore-King Mackerel are hitting slow trolled baits on the middle and south end of Pelican Flats on most days. Some times anglers can catch and release as many as 20 fish per day when the conditions are right. Most of these fish are under 10 pounds, but they make for an eventful trip when they decide to start biting really well. Cobia are another species that may come up on these reefs to feed on the slow trolled live or frozen baitfish.

Orlando, Cocoa Beach and Indian River Lagoon -Inshore- Black drum scaling from 15 to 30 pounds are schooling on the flats in the Indian and Banana Rivers near Cocoa Beach this week. Look for large school patrolling the flats searching for shrimp or crabs. Redfish in the 30 to 45 inch range may be mixed in with the drum in some of these locations east of the Orlando area. These fish move around quite regularly so keep an eye out for wakes or tailing activity to indicate the presents of a school. Deep water areas like bridge piling s and channel edges are popular places to find the drum as well.  Speckled trout have been cruising the flats of the Mosquito Lagoon north of Cocoa Beach and Orlando this week.  Soft plastic jerk baits and jigs have been productive on these fish, but if the get fussy try using a live shrimp on them and they should refuse your offering.

Let’s go catch your next memory!!!!
