March 2026 Fishing Report

By April 8, 2026No Comments

It was a pretty good March despite the loss of a lot of our inshore snook, trout and baby tarpon from the February freeze.  We turned our attention to black drum in the lagoons and tripletail and snook along the near-coastal waters.

Black drum have been the staple for us on most of our lagoon trips, but we have sprinkled a few baby sharks, medium and small sized speckled trout, and a nice mix of redfish in there as well.

In the near-coastal waters the tripletail were the main target of many of our trips.  These fish did not disappoint.  Their were quite a few tripletail that measured under slot limit, but many of my March anglers had legal sized fish averaging 8 to 12 pounds.  So some of you took tripletail home for dinner, and these are some fantastic tasting fish!

Snook action was good on many days.  We had a lot of small fish along the jetties this month.  This is slightly unusual for this time of year, but I believe that these fish were the ones that made it out of the lagoons before the freeze hit and killed many of their cousins.  Over-slot fish are always a blast to catch, and we caught good numbers of them.  In fact we will be targeting snook for the next few months on our near-coastal excursions while the season for them is open.  Many of the snook this past month measured just over the slot limit at 33 to 35-inches around the Port Canaveral jetties.

Check out the next email to see what is predicted for April and May.  I will not be chartering in the Florida Keys this May like i have in many years past so if you want to get out fishing on Florida’s Space Coast during that month, I’ll be ready to taek you.

I have a few things coming up that should interest many of you.

The first thing is that I am putting together a list of anglers that can go on either short notice, or would like ot slpit the costof a charter with another angler or two.  This email will be coming out shortly.

The second thing is that we may actually get a federal waters red snapper season this year on the east coast of Florida.  This is predicted to possibly be from around Memorial day to the end of June, and then possibly some additional dates into mid and late summer.  If this comes to fruition, you can book those dates that I have open as soon as they are announed.   I’ll be putting together specific dates on which we will be going after that species as well on a “per seat” or possibly “shared charter expenses” scenario for those of you that do not have a “fishing crew” to go out with.

And for you tarpon, shark, jack, and king mackerel anglers, June, July and August are prime times for these fish in the near-coastal waters.  If you want to chase any of these powerful fish, please book your days sooner than later.  I will also be putting together some dates that single anglers can share expenses on these types of fishing trips.
